The Good Well it's another one of those No Imperial zones, except for a little skirmish a few months back.  If you can handle the medieval lifestyle it's a not a bad place, beautiful scenery and all.
The Bad Okay the biggie, war!  The kingdoms of Gar are constantly fighting, so pick you home well, Kingdom of Lexgar is probably one of the safest.  You take your chances if you enter the Kingdom of Bloodaxe, and they're supposedly the good guys!
The Ugly If you're after a Shadowport try Hammer Haven to the North of Darkhammers land.   And if you're after a few medieval weapons try Castle Darkhammer itself.
Torm's Planet Guide

Overview of Gar

The planet Gar is located just off the Blood Run, a hyper-lane running through the Blood Drift Sector.  The Blood Run is in effect an continuation of the Rimma Trade Route.  Gar is a large planet and from space appears as a multitude of bright colours reflecting the contrasting regions of the planet.  The planets tilt is minor and it has no satellites meaning there is little change in the seasons or tides.  Each pole is constantly capped with snow and ice.

The primary continent to the north, known as the Barren Lands, is a barren red sand desert.  Crops can not grow on the surface, but subterranean plant life does exist, although any cave that has an abundance of these precious food sources is usually guarded by the troops of the Red King who owns the desert.

As you go south away from the planets equator the temperature becomes more temperate with immense grasslands, forests and valleys dominating the countryside.  There are still mountainous areas dividing regions and kingdoms, these are often inhabited by bandits looking to raid the unsuspecting traveler who tries to cross the mountains.

Further south and the temperature drops and rain is almost constant turning the ground into mud with swamps and bogs common place.

Across the sea to the west of the Kingdoms lie the Amazon Lands.  Though the Amazons do trade with sea farers they do not permit outsiders beyond the confines of the sea ports.  The Amazons are a proud race of warrior women who are more than capable of defending their territory.

The Eastern Lands makes up the only other major continent.  The Eastern Lands are lawless wastelands.  Mostly mountains and dessert the Eastern Lands are populated by bandits and ferocious creatures but covers an area three times that of the Western continent.

Western Gar Politics

Gar is split into many small Kingdoms, each controlled by a Monarchy.  Each King or Queen rules in his or her own way.  The four largest Kingdoms are Lexgar, Darkhammer, Bloodaxe & the Land of the Red King, with all but the Land of the Red King are profiled here.  Land and Power are what drive everyday life on Gar.  The majority of the civilians are little more than peasants living in wooden shacks, while the Kings and nobles live in grand castles.  Each monarch will usually have their own army of loyal followers who they can call on at a moments notice to go to war.

Western Gar has the outward appearance of a medieval feudal society, so unwary warlords beware.  Despite most Knights and soldiers wielding swords and axe's on the battlefield they will often have a modern energy weapon concealed on their person.  This is doubly so for the monarchs and their personal retinue.  Gar is not as backward as off-worlders may think or as it first appears.

There are also rumors abound that the Sith or other dark societies once held a Kingdom on Gar, although there is no evidence of this being true.  What is true however is that many powered items, strong in the force, have appeared on Gar over the centuries.  The most sought after in recent months being the legendary Dark Hammer and the powerful Blood Axe.

Garbarian

Most denizens of Gar primitive farmers, but let's not forget this is a feudal society and Warriors are many on the planet Gar.

Creatures of Gar

Gar is a world of magnificent and wondrous creatures, presented below are just a few of the more common.  For any other Creatures of Gar I suggest picking up the Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manuals, conversion to Star Wars is easy enough.

Gar Dragonback

Hit Dice:  218
VP/WP 200 / 21
Initiative -2
Speed 150' flying
Defense 25
Attacks +27 (Breath weapon - cone of fire)
Damage 10D10 (Reflex DC 24 for ½ damage)
Saves Fort +16 Ref +11, Will +13
Abilities Str 31, Dex 10, Con 21, Int 6, Wis 10, Cha 10
Climate/Terrain:  Mountains
Organization Solitary
Challenge Rating 20
Alignment Neutral

A Gar Dragonback is a semi-sentient offshoot of the Greater Dragons. These creature were used as beasts of burden during the Gar Dragon Wars many centuries ago. Many Dragons died in that war, and the honored tradition of the Dragon Rider has begun to fade into the past. Only a few of these noble warriors are left.  There are still rumors that a handful of the intelligent Great Dragons still exist, but no one is brave, or stupid, enough to go seek them out.

Anyone other than a Dragon Rider who attempts to ride a Dragonback must make a Ride check DC 20.  In combat the Dragon Rider may forfeit his own actions and use the Dragonback attacks instead.

The Gargantuan

Legend tells of a great creature, an abomination that was created, then cast aside by the Gods.  The stories tell of how this creature, full of rage, stomped across Gar destroying everything in it's path.  No man, no beast, no army or magic could destroy, or even stop it.  In their hour of need the kings of Gar joined forces and prayed to the Gods to take back the mighty creature.  But it was too late, the creature wanted nothing to do with the Gods.  It was only such arrogance on behalf of the Gargantuan that caused the Gods to intervene.  Ares and Athena joined forces and tackled the beast.  They fought for weeks, from the oceans to the snow capped mountains.  Eventually the Gargantuan was defeated, it's carcass buried under a mountain for eternity.  There is often talk that the Gargantuan will one day arise, and continue it's destructive path.  But these are just stories, aren't they...?

stats - if these beasts do exist their stats would just be silly high!

Hydra - D6

This nasty creature is smaller than a dragon and lives under ground. It surfaces to feed, normally on the Gar population. It will normally feed in remote regions like on the edge of far off forests.

A Hydra is notoriously hard to kill and is believed to be induced with magical properties.

Special abilities:

The Hydra can only truly be slain if it’s heart is destroyed.

Cutting off one of it’s heads will result in it growing two more, and it may attack without multiple action penalties for each head.

Illusion. A Hydra is a creature of the Gods, and often a Hydra has lured prey in usually with the image of a young distressed girl. Whether this is the Hydra’s doing or the Gods is unknown.

Standard Horse

Horse's can actually be found across the galaxy, much like Bantha's can.  They are a reliable beast of burden, although can be easily spooked.

War Horse

Although similar to a standard horse the War Horse is usually bred from the finest stock of animals.  The War Horse will be bigger and more powerful than a regular horse and is less likely to get frightened in combat.  Knights will ride these magnificent beasts of burden onto the battlefield.  A reliable mount is just as important as a good sword.

Welcome to Castle Darkhammer

By the Darkhammer we rule

By the Darkhammer we rule

By the Axe of might

There will blood tonight, blood tonight

from Blood Tonight, battle anthem of the Warriors of Gar

Located to the west of the kingdom of Lexgar and to the North of the kingdom of Bloodaxe, Castle Darkhammer is located in possibly the most beautiful scenery in all of Gar.  Meadows, deep valleys and thick forests make up the Kingdom of Darkhammer.  Castle Darkhammer itself is an impressive fortification only second on the planet to Castle Lexgar.  The towns and villages of Darkhammer are some of the most prosperous on the planet, with King Ivan Darkhammer welcoming off-world trade.

Notable locations in the Kingdom of Darkhammer:

Darkhammer Valley

The location of Castle Darkhammer.  The castle is set at the end of the valley alongside the Great Gar River that winds across the continent.

Hammersville

Located at the end of Darkhammer Valley is Hammersville.  Like many medieval scenes Hammersville is a collection of huts huddled around the 'mother' castle.  Hammersville ha s a thriving trade from off-world travelers as well as trade from other Kingdoms.  Hammersville also boasts a limited facility docking field.

Anyar City

A recent addition to the face of Gar is Anyar City.  Named after the Princess Anyar Darkhammer Anyar City is on the road between Castle Darkhammer and Hammer Haven.  Anyar City gets most of its trade from travellers between Hammer Haven and Castle Darkhammer.  The people here are friendly, though rumours about an underground magicians guild have not yet be proved.

Hammer Haven - Shadow Port

Hammers Haven is a port town to the northwest of Castle Darkhammer and Anyar City.  Sailing ships, grand galleons sail the Gar seas trading with other port towns to the north, and across the sea to the Amazon lands and other smaller Kingdoms.  Hammer Haven also holds a secret, it is a secret Shadow Port.  Hidden by the nearby cliffs is a small landing facility.  Hammer Haven is often used by smugglers as either a first stop entering the Blood Drift Sector, or a last point of call before heading out of the sector and into the Blood Drift.  Prices in Hammer Haven are steep, especially for items of high tech or of a medical nature.  Medpacs often sell for an equivalent of 2000 credits.

Welcome to Castle Lexgar

Welcome noble traveler to the Kingdom of Lexgar.  Honour and Chivilary are the way of life in this now honorable realm.  Long ago many smaller Kingdoms covered this land, but the Barbarian, Dargrim Lexgar, fought the oppressive rule of the former kingdoms and now sits as monarch of his own united land.

Castle Lexgar

Castle Lexgar, in the Vale of Gar, stands as one of the most impressive, and largest, fortresses on the planet.  Although outward appearances are that of am ancient stone structure, behind those stone walls are walls of armoured dura-steel.  Anti-starfighter turbolasers can quickly raise from the battlements, and a guard of Den-Gar Commando's, elite mercenaries of the Blood Drift Sector, are ready at all times.  Only an off-world force could take Castle Lexgar with possibly an orbital bombardment.

A retractable bridge extends over the moat that surrounds the castle.  Once you pass through the armoured, and always manned, gatehouse you are led into the outer grounds.  A path runs to an inner gate-house, leading to the walled inner-grounds.  Within the inner grounds stands a large statue of the deceased Queen Lexgar, a monument of King Lexgar's only love.  The Royal quarters are in a fortified mansion located at the heart of the inner-grounds.  Within this mansion can be found the Lexgar Throne Room, as well as a well stocked armoury.  The main armoury being located in the outer-grounds.  The out-grounds are large enough to land several stock light freights, but starships are rare.  King Dargim Lexgar does not own a starship, instead choosing to use the transports of the Den-Gar.

Characters of the Lexgar Kingdom

Dargrim Lexgar

Title King
Loyalty His Kingdom
Quote "That's how a Barbarian fights!"

"Good day to you my subjects.  I am King Lexgar, and let no one doubt it.  I fought for my Kingdom over thirty years ago, and have fought to keep it since then.  I have no more thirst for conquest, but I shall lay waste to any army that dares to challenge the Lexgar Kingdom."

Capsule:  Now in to his sixties Dargrim Lexgar is growing old.  In fact it is unusual for human from Gar to live much past sixty, let alone be in the good health as Dargrim still is.  Dargrim has mellowed with age.  The one time barbarian outlaw is now a respected and just King.  Dargrim owes much of this success to the Den-Gar, whom he took command over after their defeat by the Mandalores around the time of the Clone Wars.  Dargrim always keeps a retainer of six elite Den-Gar Commando's as his personal guard, as well as numerous Den-Gar filling guard posts around his castle and Kingdom.  Dargrim has no love of the Empire, and is not concerned with off-world matters.  He is aware that Vader and other parties such as Black Sun are eager to hire the Den-Gar, but for now he is content to keep his elite commando's near.  King Dargrim Lexgar has but one regret, that his beloved wife, had not died so young.  A statue of Queen Lexgar takes pride of place in the courtyard of Castle Lexgar.

Other places of interest

Vale of Gar

The Vale of Gar is a long winding valley stretching all the way from Baron Irongraads land.  At the end of the vale is Castle Lexgar, and huddled around it are many small houses.  The village is also referred to as the Vale of Gar.  Of the goods that can be procured here weapons are the most prominent.  Longswords and broadswords are popular weapons here, the forges of the Vale of Lexgar are known as the best on Gar.  A sword forge in the Vale is unlikely to fail you in battle.

Silverbeard Forge

Silverbeard is an aged Dwarf.  His forge is considered the best in the Vale.  He works alone but for his apprentice, and does not forge weapons en mass.  The Dwarf takes much care in his work, and although his products take time, and are expensive, his weapons are the best on Gar, if not throughout the Blood Drift.

(for a list the weapons of Gar see Gallandro's Armoury)

Irongraad Pass & Irongraad Keep

The valleys between the Kingdoms of Lexgar, Darkhammer and Bloodaxe meet at Irongraad Pass.  Entering the Lexgar Kingdom by any other path from Darkhammer or Bloodaxe territory is treacherous, only Irongraad Pass offers an easy route.  Along Irongraad Pass is Irongraad Keep, ruled by Lord Irongraad, a loyal servant of King Lexgar.  Irongraad Keep, though not a formidable fortress has kept out many an attack from Bloodaxe.  The high-walled Keep blocks the whole valley, and Lord Irongraads warriors are some of the best in the land.

Castle

loodaxe

Castle Bloodaxe
The Kingdom of Bloodaxe is located to the south of Darkhammer.  The Kingdom is relatively small in wet, bog ridden land.   In recent years Castle Bloodaxe had fallen into disrepair, and was far from safe from attack.  In recent time Castle Bloodaxe has fallen three times.  First Tetris Bloodaxe overthrew her father, then Grand Moff Bloodaxe, technically the true rightful heir to the throne, took the throne from his granddaughter using the might of the Empire.  When the Imperial forces withdrew Tetris took back her throne.

Despite one incident of a tank driving through its walls (which Tetris warns everyone not to ever mention) developments and repairs are going well.  An outer wall, with an outer city wall also being constructed, now surrounds the old castle.  Once completed this could make Castle Bloodaxe the strongest fortification on Gar, a position currently held by Castle Lexgar.

The most impressive, and terrifying, feature of the castle is it's dungeons.  Castle Bloodaxe boasts the largest Torture Chamber in all of Gar

Dire Marshes to the north
Castle Bloodaxe lies in the heart of the Dire Marshes.  The swamps are boggy and treacherous as well as being inhabited by numerous dangerous creatures such as Gardrakes and Swamp Serpents.  Farmers have struggled for years to grow crops in the marshes, and only with the import of new seeds are the farming community showing signs of improving.

Travelers through the marshland are advised to stay to the roads as a single wrong footstep could lead to a nasty watery demise.

South Pass - Temple of Ares
As the land dries out to the south of castle you find the South pass.  The pass starts all the way up in Anyar City in Darkhammer territory and runs east past Castle Bloodaxe towards the Grey Mountains.  It is along the base of the Grey Mountains on the South Pass that Tetris has ordered the construction of the Temple of Ares.

The Temple of Ares
Ares, God of War, has few temples.  Those that worship him do so on the battlefield by spilling the blood of their enemies, not in some soppy building.  Nevertheless, a few temples to Ares do exist, with the one in the Bloodaxe Kingdom the largest and most magnificent of all.  Build from stone, silver and gold, inside the temple is more like an armoury than a place of worship. And Dragon Guards are present in the temple at all times.  The Temple itself was built for a secret purpose.  Beyond the temple is a cave that houses the Gar Hypergate.  It is through this Hypergate the Dragon Guard can travel between worlds, such as the Dragon Guard homeworld of New Gar.

To reach the Stargate first, well, you need to know about it.  The only people on Gar that know of it’s existence are Ares, the Dragon Guard, Queen Tetris Bloodaxe, Ares, Bail Ohmar, Livia, Taurus and Athena.  Two others are aware of it, Trish of the Time Bandits, and Buffy, who lives on the planet Aldis.

Once in the temple you must pass into the Inner sanctum, which is locked when the High Priest is not there, (Security DC 15 to open lock with high tech security tools).  Once through there there is a passageway into the caves.  Thirty meters in and the passage is blocked by an energy field, and beyond that two Dragon Guard.  Only the Dragon Guard can open the shield, unless it is by-passed (Security DC 25 to lower shield).  Further into the cave is the Hypergate.  Anti-chambers also hold several items of high technology including a powerful teleportation system (Knowledge: Technology DC 20 to understand, Computer Use DC 15 to use).

Warning: anyone attempting to use the Stargate without the express permission of the God of War will incur his wrath.

The Dragon Guard

The Dragon Guard are taken from planets across several galaxies. They are mostly human and taken from pre-feudal societies. Ares, God of War, personally selects who will become Dragon Guard through a series of brutal tests of fortitude and combat prowess. Once selected the warriors are taken back to the world of New Gar where they go through further combat training. The best warriors graduate to become Dragon Guard. The Dragon Guard are equipped with an armoured suit and staff weapons. Dragon Guard wear either a retractable armoured dragon design headdress or a grey armoured spacesuit, making their appearance unmistakable.

Oldfort
Oldfort is the town that surrounds Castle Bloodaxe.  It is a haphazard collection of wood and stone buildings, many at odd angles due to the soft ground on which it is built.  Oldfort gets it’s name from the fact the Old Bloodaxe Fort was built on this land many centuries ago.  The people of the town are friendly, if a little glum, as living in a dirty swamp is not the best place to live.  The most famous building by far in the town is the Flagon of Ale Tavern, frequented by many, including many of the castle guard.

The Hammer River
The Hammer River runs from the mountains through Bloodaxe and eventually Darkhammer territory.

Grey Mountains
The Grey Mountains form a near impassable barrier between the Bloodaxe Kingdom and the Southern Kingdoms.

Dragon's Drift  Inn
Along the Hammersville Road on the border to Darkhammer's Kingdom lies a grand Inn.  Food and drink are good here.  The outer wall acts as a minor fortification with large double gates opening onto a grand courtyard.  A drive runs through an archway in the middle of the three story building towards the stables at the back.  Once you enter the Inn your senses are instantly overwhelmed with joyful singing, thunderous laughter and the smell of the finest roast Gar-Boar.  Room rates are reasonable and the company good.  It is no wonder this is a classed as the finest Inn on Gar.

The Blood Queen

Tetris Bloodaxe

"I'm Tetris, and I'm THE bitch, so what you gonna' do about it?    Nothing.  Because if ya' do I'll kick your ass.  That goes for Ivan and daddy too.  And as for grand-daddy, well, as soon as I can get near I won't have a grand-daddy."

Capsule:  Tetris Bloodaxe is the daughter of King Bloodaxe.  Tetris overthrew both her father and grand-father to become Queen.  She played events to become known as Queen of Gar, then killed Phantillios to become ruler of the Blood Drift and known as the Blood Empress.  Her pact with Ares, God of War, has given her much power in the sector.  Only recently would her power be questioned by the arrival of a Draygon army.

King Bloodaxe

Title former-King
Loyalty Himself
Quote "I shall crush Darkhammer and regain my Bloodaxe throne!"

"I am King Bloodaxe.  The command of the Den-Gar is rightfully mine.  As are the lands of Darkhammer and Bloodaxe.  Betrayed by my own daughter, ah, a real Bloodaxe heart she has.  But I shall fight to the last man to reclaim what is rightfully mine, using whatever means necessary."

Capsule:  Bloodaxe is a man of greed and hate.  He is not the King, but has claimed the throne in his fathers, Grand Moff Ravikk, absence.  He is disliked by the other Kingdoms as well as his own family.  He is also well aware that his daughter Tetris has aspirations to become Queen.
