Isis & the Gutree

modified from stats published in 'The Isis Coordinates' by WEG

Sithspawns Speaks

The 'Lair is all about original stats, so I guess you're wondering what Gutree stats are doing here.  Well it's simple.  Have you tried looking for information on the Gutree in official sources, eg. the Star Wars Encyclopedia, well good luck!  There is also a Gutree PC in the Warriors of Gar, so the race had to be fleshed out for our campaign.

From space the crystalline planet of Isis glows as bright as a star.  The very nature of the crystal surface of the planet cause it to refract the suns light causing multitude of rainbows across the planets clear skies.  Scanners are pretty useless on Isis and will register the planet as a barren life-less worthless rock.  Yet there is an indigenous life-form on Isis, the Gutree.  The Gutree are almost one with the planet.  The surface of Isis is pitted with crystal craters, and huge crystal spikes and mountains, and deep ravines.  Those who do not know the surface of Isis should be careful where they step.  The forces affecting scanners expand to communications also.

The planet Isis is located on the far edge of the Outer rim, far from the prying eyes of the Empire.  Therefore a perfect location for a secret Alliance base.

The Good No Imperials.  This is a distant world far from the galactic community
The Bad This is a distant world far from the galactic community.  Okay, it's location is down to personal preference.  There's only one spaceport here, and traffic is slow, VERY slow.  So don't expect too many high tech luxuries
The Ugly The local Gutree's are friendly people, most of the time.  But expect them to challenge you to a fight the first time you meet.  And when they say 'take life' it's not what it sounds like

Locations of Isis

The Crystal Forest.  The Crystal forest is just what it sounds like.  Tree-like structures and giant spikes, all crystalline, jut from the ground.  When the light hits the forest the rainbow effects are spectacular.  However, the forest is not all beauty.  Predators roam the forests.  Even though they may not eat meat, they have no qualms about crushing a few bones.

Crys-drayke

Type:  Crystalline Predator

Dexterity 3D Perception 2D+2 Strength 4D+2
    Tracking 3D+2 Brawl 5D+2

The Crysdrayke grow to five meters long and attack through biting their prey (damage: Str +1D)

Ragnok

Type:  Giant Predator

Dexterity 2D Perception 1D+2 Strength 8D+2

Ragnok are very rare.  The Gutree believe that Ragnok is not a creature, but an extension of Isis.  Gutree Shamans teach their tribe to respect Isis and nature, or Isis will send Ragnok.  The appearance of Ragnok is a omen of destruction in the eyes of the Gutree.

The Great Ravine.  This is home to many Gutree tribes.  The ravine stretches for over 100 miles across the equator of Isis and is over a mile deep.  There are many crystal caves that lead to passages ways far below the surface of Isis.  Some even lead into Neskroff City.  The Great Ravine is also home of the Terra-Crys, large flying predators.

Terra-crys

Type: Flying Predator

Dexterity 3D+1 Perception 3D+2 Strength 2D+2
        Brawl 3D+2

It's a miracle of nature how a creature made of crystal can fly, but the Terra-crys do.  They appear like large prehistoric birds, their wings composed of micro-fine crystals.  The beaks and claws of Terra-crys are sharp and used to attack (damage: Str +1D).  Not a brave creature the Terra-crys will usually attack a lone individual, and they will attack in numbers of around six to eight.

Neskroff City and Spaceport - The Rebel Base

With the help of a tribe of Gutree Neskroff City has become a large rebel secret base.  Although Isis has not been designated a 'Safe World' by Alliance High Command many members of rebel families have been transferred to Isis.  Security screening is great though.  Isis is a food and medical supply base, not to mention an X-Wing production facility.  Such a facility would normally give off high energy levels and attract Imperial attention.  Due to the planet naturally dampening energy emissions the Alliance only has to worry about the Imperial Survey Corps discovering the world by accident (see 'The Isis Coordinates' adventure module by WEG).

The City itself is built into a large crystal crater.  The corridors and streets are calved into the crystal surface of the planet.  Due to the natural communications disruptions over broadcast frequencies all communication in Neskroff City is via fiber-optic telecommunication technology (telephones).  The city is split into three sections, residential, spaceport (including warehouses) and factory.  The factory, manned by rebel techs, droids and a few of the staff from Incom, is capable of producing up to 50 X-Wings per week, although it rarely produces more than 20 due to lack of available raw materials.

Physical Description:  The Gutree are native to Isis and form a symbiotic relationship to the planet.  Their bodies are crystal based, and are very hard.  To punch a Gutree is like punching a rock (only rocks don't punch back).  Generally Gutree are not an aggressive race, but their will defend themselves.  Their primitive way of life has been disrupted slightly by the presence of off-worlders.  Rather than shut themselves off they have embraced the opportunity to gather the 'life' of these strange aliens.

Cultures:  Gutree are a primitive tribal race.  Each Tribe is ruled by a Shaman, who will often show minor force abilities.  To a Gutree their 'life' means everything.  By 'life' they actually mean their memories.  By defeating ones enemies a Gutree can take their memories, or give them if they lose, as is their code of honour.  Such contests are usually single contests of the Bastaska.  Upon first contact with a new tribe or group a single champion from each side will take part in the Bastaska duel.  Regardless of the fight outcome, the fact that the contest was fought is enough for both sides to consider the other worthy of friendship.

Bastaska:  The Bastaska itself is a crystal 'rope', and is carried by all Gutree warriors.  The Bastaska Contest is a duel between two single contestants.  Each contestant holds an end of the Bastaska, and a fight ensues.  The fight can be hand-to-hand or with melee weapons (you can use blasters too if you really want - see below).  The first person to let go of the Bastaska loses, and must forfeit their 'life'

GM Notes:

Running a Bastaska Duel.  Use brawl or melee combat rules as normal.  Whenever either combatant takes a wound or stun they must make an Dexterity: Easy (10) die roll, or loose the Bastaska.  If incapacitated the Bastaska is obviously dropped.

Taking 'life':  Once victorious in a duel, Bastaska duel or otherwise, the winning Gutree will touch their opponent.  In a few seconds all of that persons memories will be passed to the victor.  Vice-versa, by touching a defeated Gutree you can take their 'life' memories.

GM notes:

Only the persons memories are transferred.  Skills are never increased by taking 'life'.

Special Abilities

Blaster Resistance:  Gutree are impervious to blaster fire of Character or Speeder Scale.  Above this damage is applied as normal.  Should a Gutree be shot by a blaster the laser with simply refract through their body and exit at random.  The Gutree can NOT aim the refracted laser bolt out of their body.

Create Crystal Spear (damage: Str +1D).  Gutree may draw a crystal spear from their body to use in combat.  They may also shoot crystal shards from their body (Skill to use: Thrown Weapons) that cause Str +1D damage.

Force resistance.  Gutree are immune to two force powers, Drain Life Essence and Transfer Life.  In fact the use of Transfer Life into a Gutree host has terrible consequences.  The Gutree, used to the transfer of memories will take the Dark Jedi's 'life' and the Dark Jedi's essence will be lost, transferred from their own body with an impossible to possess host, the Dark Jedi will die.

Force Sensitive:  YES.  Due to the Gutree's very nature they are all Force Sensitive.

Commune with Isis:  Should any natural disaster befall the planet Isis the Gutree will know.  The Gutree are effectively one with the planet.  They are also capable of controlling the planets surface.  By commanding the ground they stand upon the Gutree can turn the surface of the planet into a wave which they ride, or surf, in order to travel at greater speed.  THIS IS NOT A FORCE POWER and only Gutree may create these waves.
