Comics & things

My love of Heroclix comes from my love of comics.

So Here are a few of my likes and insights on my comic collection.

My comics - League of Comic Book Geeks

Favourite comic characters

Batman Spider-Man She-Hulk Death's Head II

Captain Britain Judge Dredd Incredible Hulk Harley Quinn

  Favourite comic titles
Batman

I've been reading this title for some time and is the only ongoing title I still follow, though via the trade paperbacks.  There have been a couple of weak stories, but generally I still enjoy this title very much.

  Sensational She-Hulk

After Star Wars I was introduced to Marvel comic with The Sensational She-Hulk.  I still love this series.  It's fun and it's silly.

Batman - Legend of the Dark Knight

The first DC comics I read were Legends of the Dark Knight.  I was a Batman fan from the old '66 TV series and the '89 film, but this series is superb.  I have recently reread some of these and they still hold up, focusing more on Batman the Detective while capturing an atmospheric gothic feel.

  Excalibur

Another comic I was introduced to early in my comic reading.  Instantly fell in love with the characters of Captain Britain, Nightcrawler and Kitty Pryde.

Detective Comics

One of the longest running comic series with who else, Batman.  Okay, I've not read even a fraction of the series, but the recent Nocturne story arc was amazing.

  Captain Britain

I've been reading Captain Britain from the start through reprints.  A classic era of British comics.  A great fun series.

DC Graphic Novel Collection

Collecting some of the best DC Comics stories including Green Lantern Blackest Night and Justice League Tower of Babel.

  Uncanny X-Men

I do enjoy the X-Men, the animated series is one of my favourites.  And the cover here is one of my favourites.

Star Wars

Set 4,000 years before the events of A New Hope.  The Tales of the Jedi comics give a fresh approach to Star Wars with some great stories and memorable characters.  Highly recommend.

  The Incredible Hulk

Primarily the Peter David run.  There are some very, very good Hulk stories here.

Sar Wars

'Somehow, Palpatine returned.

Well yes he did, but long before Rise of Skywalker.  This is what the Sequels should have been.

  Spider-Man 2099

Another Peter David comic.  This is the title that started off the 2099 universe, and still the best.

Star Wars

This was the first comic series I started reading, though not back in '77.  I started around '89 collecting back issues.  I was a big Star Wars fan and this series is great fun, even if there are events that now contradict current Stare Wars lore.

  Motormouth & Killpower

I do have a soft spot for the 90's Marvel UK titles including Dark Angel and Death's Head II.

Spawn

I collected 1-125.  I still love the character but have just not got back into reading yet.

  Death's Head

Just got to love the Intergalactic time-travelling Bounty Hunter Peace-Keeping Agent, yes?

  Favourite comic stories
Torment

Great story and amazing artwork by Todd Macfarlane.  I have been a Spidey fan since a kind via the cartoons.  I don't read many Spider-Man titles, but this is my all time favourite comic book story.

Spider-Man 1-5
Nocturne

A more recent story, but one that has that gothic atmosphere that first introduced me to Batman comic in Legend of the Dark Knight,

Detective Comics 1062-1089
Dark Knights of Steel

Another recent story, and an Elseworlds one.  I'm generally not a fan of the multiverse etc. in comics, but this new take on Batman and Superman is very, very good.

Batman / Superman
War and Pieces

I do like Perter Davids run on The Incredible Hulk.  I've reread some recently and this three part story is as good now as when it was first released.

The Incredible Hulk 390-392
Red Rain

In invocative art style perfectly captures this gothic tale of the Dark Knight up against the Prince of Darkness.

Batman / Dracula
Court of Owls

This story changed Gotham City forever.  Batman discovers that maybe he doesn't know Gotham as well as he thought.

Batman 1-7
Knightfall

This epic series crossed multiple tiles for over a year following a new Batman after Bane broke Bruce Waynes back.  Comic stores don't get much more epic than this.
