The Heart of Gar
JUN/14
After a week break the crew are back,
this time working for Imperial Governor Niall of Garqi.
The crew are to retrieve The Heart of Gar, a worthless
small statue, from a rival Imperial Governor, Governor
De’ath Grey of Barnaba in the Tapani Sector.
After failed astrogation the crew get
lost in a nebula but manage to escape relatively
unharmed, escaping from a pirate frigate which was
closing in on the ship.
With a legal manifest for a cargo of
foodstuffs (to make a bit of profit and provide cover)
the crew arrive at the planet Barnaba unhindered. They
land at Barnabas Port, one of the few spaceports on the
mountainous world.
They make contact with an underworld
contact and plan to sneak into the Gala Ball that is
being hosted in the Governors mansion in three days
time.
With time to spare the crew head to
The Last Port, a trader cantina, to find a buyer for
their cargo. Barny, the Trandoshan, is last to enter the
cantina. When he does it falls silent, and at the back
of the cantina a very large angry looking Wookiee*
stands up!
* Trandoshans and Wookiees
are, most often, mortal enemies.
The crew are preparing for their
heist, stealing the Heart of Gar statue from and
Imperial Governor, or re-appropriating goods as they
call it.
The Tapani Sector, planet Barnaba,
Barnabas Port City.
We left it with Barny confronted by a
very large Wookiee in The Last Port cantina. Everyone
breathes a sigh of relief when it turns out the Wookiee
is Karabar and along with his Ewok sidekick Shorty are
old friends of Barny. They help the crew sell their
cargo, but a Despair when negotiating a price reveals
10% of their foodstuff cargo had expired. But they still
made a profit.
They then visit LaJuno’s Emporium, a
clothes bazaar to get some clothes that will help them
blend in better in Tapani. The crew were somewhat taken
aback by the rather camp Twi’lek owner, LaJuno.
While waiting for their clothes three
Sabre Rakes enter intent on causing trouble; Lord Seth
Lasanda, Sir Pollock and Sir Dikken. The rakes insult
the aliens PCs Jara and Barny, Jara and Barny don’t take
it too well, but the fight is short. The rakes draw
Light-foils; Jara duels with Lord Lasanda, Barny disarms
and breaks the arm of Pollock and Tanizanda draws his
blaster and shoots the Light-foil from Dikken’s hand
(rolling a Triumph). The three rakes leave with their
tails between their legs after being humiliated by the
Crew.
Due to our short gaming sessions we
have decided that Destiny points will roll over for two
weeks. Obligations will roll over for two or more weeks
to allow it to come into play.
This week the group rolled up Five
Light Side points.
Obligation fell to Jara; Revenge!
The crew on Barnaba in the Tapani
Sector planning a heist at an upcoming Gala Ball.
Opening their docking bay doors to
the fresh sea air breeze of Barnaba they are greeted by
Gubbins and Mucker, a Bimm and dim-witted Selonian.
Gubbins offers his services in Starship Valeting.
Despite much persuasion the crew decline to let him on
their ship. Despite threats from the crew Gubbins thanks
the crew and leaves them his card.
After a quick meeting with Mr.
Snaggle the crew go in search of weapons and are
directed to Guuls Travelling Emporium. A short
hyper-space journey later and they find the Jawa ran
black market vessel, a converted bulk cruiser which runs
a marketplace for all manner of illegal merchandise, but
primarily weapons. The Crew acquire a couple of
firearms, and during their visit have an encounter with
a Gotal gunslinger called Gunnar Kring. Kring warns JAra
that Zena Starflare is ‘in town’ so he should watch his
back – Zena being a Zeltron gunslinger who works with
Jara much hated sister (and source of his Obligation for
Revenge).
Returning to Barnaba the crew once
more are met by Gubbins and Mucker. As they are once
more told to get lost Barny could have sworn, just for a
second, that he saw the same Devronian watching their
ship who they encountered on Geonosis…
It’s time for the Governors Gala Ball
on Barnaba in the Tapani Sector and the Crew get ready
to Steal The Heart of Gar.
The Crew pilot to the cloud mansion
in a borrowed air car and despite being well dressed go
through the tradesman’s entrance.
The Crew realise someone may be onto
them when the Security let them past (despite failing
all bluff checks). Inside they make their way through
the kitchens when head Chef Ramsay mistakes Barney for
one of his chefs and tells him to start preparing the
meat dishes. Barney, not wanting to cause trouble, and
actually does very well and receives much praise from
Ramsay to the bemusement of his colleagues who watch on
bemused.
Eventually they all make their way
into the Ball and find the Governors art collection.
Several other guests are admiring the collection as the
Crew decide how they are going to go about stealing the
small statue. As they discuss their plans they are
interrupted by a red skinned Zeltron woman, Zena
Starflare, nemesis to Jara…
With the Tapani Gala Ball the crew
are ready to swipe the Heart of Gar but for the
appearance the Zeltron mercenary, and rival to Jara,
Zena Starflare.
Words are exchanged as a ruckus kicks
off in the ball room downstairs*
Taking this as their cue Tanizanda swipes the statue
sounding alarms, Jara and Zena drawn blades and begin to
duel while Barny tackles two of Zena thugs. Security
guards try to shoot Tanizanda and lock the doors only
the Tanizanda to slip past and escape.
The thugs are beat down by Barny.
Then, as our tribute to The Ultimate Warrior who died
this week, Jara dived at Zena with a shoulder barge (and
got a TRIUMPH) knocking her
dazed to the floor.
Dilemma… Jara was about to make the
killing blow on Zena (triggered by his Revenge
Obligation) when she pleaded for her life with
information about the Devronian who has been stalking
the group.
This is where I love the Edge of the
Empire Obligation system, something I was sceptical
about at first. I gave Jara the option of killing Zena
and reducing his Obligation or sparing her and gaining
the info. He chose the information…
Zena revealed the Devronian to be
Vrath Kaan, a cut-throat explorer. There is a rumour
that The Last Archangel (PCs starship) has a rare relic
hidden somewhere within, but no one knows what it is,if
it exists at all.
The Crew make their escape and
deliver the statue to Governor Niall on Garqi.
- The ruckus is
actually the events from an old adventure we ran
several years ago. It was an in-joke for the story
to cross over with the old classic adventure.
